About the Show

Everybody say 'Yea yea!' 'Fela!' stomps into Seattle through June 2.

The national tour of Fela! opens in Seattle on May 28. The musical about the life and music of iconic Nigerian composer and musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti will play the Paramount Theatre through June 2. The show features Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child as Kuti’s love interest.

Fela! tells the story of Kuti's life as an artist, political activist and revolutionary musician in Nigeria. In addition to forming a political party and running for president several times, Kuti created the enormously influential style of music known as “Afrobeat,” which blended jazz, funk and African rhythms and harmonies.

The show stars Adesola Osakalumi and Duain Richmond as Fela at alternating performances, Melanie Marshall as Funmilayo and Williams as Sandra.

Fela! was conceived, choreographed and directed by Tony Award-winning Spring Awakening choreographer Bill T. Jones. The musical originally opened at Broadway's Eugene O’Neill Theatre in November 2009, and was nominated for 11 2010 Tony Awards.
